As I was searching for inspiration for the initial idea behind my piece, I first thought of how I wanted to construct and develop my creative voice in my choreography, in order to add depth and meaning to my final performance. I had a look at the way some practitioners interpret movement with music and explored the different methods they use in their pieces to portray a well-developed concept. Before I started, I had accumulated an idea of what the visual effect should be, which involved paying attention to the finer details to give my choreography some verisimilitude.

(Thomas, 2017)
I have chosen the idea of a secret, in which I am in an abusive relationship that I cannot control. I developed this idea further by thinking about how destructive secrets can be if they spread, which influenced me to think about the different patterns and shapes I can integrate into my movement to provoke the sense of the lie spreading With this idea in mind, I gradually analyzed and examined themes that I can use to captivate my audience, but also bring a sense of familiarity:
Isolation
The energy it takes to resist the urge to tell someone, the self-censoring, the rumination would be difficult. The anxiety of the burden lays heavy and you become lost in the anticipation of what would happen if it spread?
Irritation
The act of his behaviour becomes a part of your daily routine in which you feel as though you don't have the strength mentally or physically to fight back but to conform with it instead.
Deception
Going to deceive people you're close to can make them doubt their own sanity. It becomes compromising who we are and living in a world where possessiveness will become a destructive, harmful habit, (Firestone, n.d.).
With my stimulus idea in mind, I feel inspired to start constructing my thoughts, processes and themes together in order to create a passionate, heartfelt piece that all generations can sympathize with. I will show that this piece of choreography is not a translation or abstraction from life, it's life itself. I want my piece to be a true representation of what life could be like when you are in an abusive relationship, showing that compromising my integrity and acting on a sense of guilt or obligation can be a shattering factor in my life. My work will encompass tenderness and vehemence that the audience will be enraptured by, whilst also holding an internal excitement of what could happen when I do defend myself.
